FAQ

1What is the difference between Meditation and Mindfulness?

While there are differing opinions on this matter, we like to keep things simple and practical at Spirit Tree. Basically, they are two sides of the same coin. Meditation typically involves a pre-determined focus such as the breath, sensation, or even an object coupled with specific postures and breathing sequences. Mindfulness can be defined as being aware of whatever is present in the moment. For example, if you are riding a bike and you place your focus on the sensation between your hands and the handlebar, this could be seen as a type of mindfulness. 

​There are elements of mindfulness in meditation and elements of meditation in mindfulness. Both practices involve disrupting thought patterns, directing focus, and improving mental health.  Both require practice, and both have been found to offer many benefits to practitioners, including:

2Can emotional regulation and stress management help me manage anger, depression, and anxiety?

The short answer is yes but let's expand on that. There are basically two types of emotions - those that support empowering states and those that support disempowering states. Empowering states feel good and disempowering states do not feel good. Anger, anxiety, fear, depression, etc. are examples of emotions that lead to disempowering states while love, joy, compassion, etc. are examples of emotions that lead to empowering states.

Even though we know disempowering states don't feel good we typically have created an emotional pattern earlier in life (with good intentions I might add) that seems to be out of our control and it "just happens" with an associated trigger. But it doesn't have to be this way. By redefining our relationship with these emotions and practicing specific spiritual techniques we can disrupt these patterns and create new ones.

The keys here are self-love, patience, and practice. It's likely the existing pattern has been there for some time so it may take a little practice for a new pattern to replace it. The good news is I have condensed more than 30 years of experience learning through trial and error on how to manage my emotions into effective results-driven techniques that are shared during coaching sessions, workshops, and retreats.

3Why do you offer so many different types of spiritual techniques?

The list above is actually just a starting point as we draw upon our experience with many other spiritual backgrounds in our offerings! So why do we do this? Every client's needs are different and what might work for one person may not work for another. We like being able to find the right techniques for you to quantum leap your spiritual journey as opposed to trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

While there is no spiritual silver bullet, some techniques appear to have more broad applications than others and those are the ones we have listed above as the main offerings in our coaching sessions, workshops, and retreats because we have found we can help more people that way.
